This operational workflow enables rapid, on-site biological threat detection within the hot/warm zone to inform emergency response. Designed for technical operators, the process integrates field-deployable DNA extraction from powder samples with non-targeted (agnostic) shotgun Nanopore sequencing, utilizing the portable Oxford Nanopore Mk1D device and a laptop. Real-time data streams into Nanometa Live, a graphical user interface, which performs automated sample analysis and provides immediate visual alerts upon threat detection. This real-time intelligence enhances on-scene risk assessment and situational awareness, enabling incident commanders to implement proportionate, well-coordinated response and containment strategies.
